It will depend on several factors. What was the felony charge for? In other words, if you were charged with embezzlement, I doubt anyone would hire you if you have access to sensitive documents or financial documentation. If it's nothing to do with your job, it will be up to the employer to decide. How long ago was the felony conviction? You may want to look into an expungement...

I know the company I worked for in Tennessee, if you had any felony at all, medicare rules would not allow you to have "patient" contact. So you could work in the warehouse were you never meet a patient, but not up front where you could contact any patient.

Every employee every year had a background check, it was part of our national certification to do business with medicare. I do not know if this was just TN rules or not, but even our janitor who cleaned around the patients had to be flear of felonies

    Hello Mendoza44
I am a now in training to become a medical assistant and they have to do a background check on me and I know that I don't have any felonies. What make you think that you with a felony should be an exception. You should have thought about this before you did the crime whatever it maybe.

    Good luck

That comment was a little harsh considering that the felony may have been committed 5-10 years ago and the person has been completely rehabilitated. I think there should definitely be more programs to help one time felons. How are they supposed to better their lives when their job outlook is so grim. I think that since they are taking the initiative to continue their education and better their lives that they should be given a second chance.

I also fell that the comment was Harsh... You can't judge everyone as a criminal just because they have a record.. Everyone found guilty is always guilty... We as people fail to put ourselves in other people shoes.. Have you looked over your own life?? We all have done something that was against the lay but all of us just didn't get caught... Hell Ive wrote a hot check and intended to put the money in the account but didn't,that's a crime but do I deserve to be punished for the rest of my life?? NO!! Just remember that certain circumstances make you do things you usually wouldn't but we all must learn from something. And if you've done your time then you should be able to better yourself for you and your family.. If you get educated that's a great first step... Dont let anyone discourage you, they don't know your struggles...

Paborders that was a very stupid comment to make! Everyone deserves a second change and have absolutely no right to judge. U should not be bragging about being ONLY a medical ASST. without a felony ! Hello think before talking. And by the way this IS coming from a none felon employer that would consider an ex felon before a narrow mind like yourself!

That was not the question oh holy man! I would bet money even though you are not a felon you are something of a arrogant . And your studying for a degree to help people? That's laughable. You need compassion and a degree to fully reach your potential. Wow

Hey you ignorant some people make mistakes and realize it, our past is not what define us it's what we are doing with our present time to look forward to a better future that keep us going so for you to sit there and judge I believe is very immature and have no concerns for others.. honestly why did you even bother posting something in this blog WE ARE TRYING TO GET AHEAD NOT HAVE S LIKE YOU TRYING TO STOP US FROM REACHING OUR DREAMS AND GOALS
