    Screwed over

Okay we got royally screwed. Sunday night our AC went out. And we called a company with this big huge advertisement in the phone book. Well they came out and looked for about an hour and said that we had to get a bunch of stuff fixed so we where like okay. He did some stuff and was like this is wrong that is wrong... blah blah blah. So he said we had to pay him $150 for telling us what was wrong. So we did! So two days later he comes back and starts pulling stuff out, breaking down different things. And says he has to go order a part. So he left. Adam had to call him the next day to see what happened and where he went. He said he had to wait for the part to come in and he would call us when he got it in. So he didn't call last night or today so I called and left him a HARSH message. Well he called my husband back and was like " i talked to the company that makes your type and they said there could be a 1000 things wrong with it, and it would be a waist of time and money to fix it. that there is nothing we can do for you." bam just like that we are screwed out of $150.

So my question is, how can we get that money back? Is there a way?

File a complaint with the better business bureau (that won't get you anything but satisfaction but you should do it anyway), and the state attorney general (that might).

So he didnt call last night or today so i called and left him a HARSH message

This is the busy season and usually it takes a week sometimes to get parts if it is a special item for a particular unit. Harsh messages beget harsh actions. It is always smart to be nice no matter what the circumstances are since this is the person who was going to fix your A/C but not now and he already got your 150.00 to boot. I understand where you are coming from but a small amount of sugar will always do better than a pound of salt.

First of all I would call and be nice to the person that got your money. I would apologise for leaving the nasty message you left and ask him if there was any way he could possibly fix the A/C. This is a start because it will just about be impossible to get your money back. The reason is he provided you with a service call and the labor for him stopping by and this is standard operating procedure for most companys now days. You got something of value for your money and that is the way a court of law would look at it.

Now it is just possible he might be able to help you out and if not you lost nothing but a bit of your time talking to him. Always keep a cool head in any discussion and you will prevail.

$150 for a service call? Something doesn't sound right. Also sounds to me like tech is not very smart at diagnosing and/ or serviceing a unit. He had to call the company ofr a part and they told him there could be lots of things wrong? Was this tech with a company or some fly by the seat of his pants guy you found on craigslist? Every guy with a truck and some tools and no job seems to be posted on there as a handyman of some sort.

I would find a reutable company and like hvac1000 said I would be nice. You never want to piss on someone who can make your summer a living hell!

We also have to remember there is two sides to every story and we only hear the one side.

$150 not a bad price for a Sunday night. Is this the company you always use or just the first you got to come out? How old is your system is it time to be replaced. Not all problems can be fixed in one day. If he's a new tech he has to start from scratch to figure out what all problems you do have.

In my locale you will pay extra for a Sunday night just for someone to come and diagnose the problem. $150 isn't too far off.

I would take HVAC's advice and call back to see what can be done. At the very least get every scrap of information from this tech, since that is essentially what you paid for so you don't have to pay the next tech to plow the same ground. Who knows maybe you'll even get some options you don't know about.
