Salinity is the saltiness or dissolved salt content of a body of water.

The density of a material is defined as its mass per unit volume.

    Do you see the connection?

An increase in salinity causes a increase in density and a decrease in salinity causes a decrease in density. In other words when salt is dissolved in water it increases the mass but not to the volume therefore increasing the density.

    Hope I was clear =)
