    Try clicking View>Thumbnails

When you dbl click... does it open? What does it open with?

I would suggest getting IRFANVIEW (IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide) the Best frew photo view out there. During install, select photos to associate (not video/movies)

Sounds to me as if your associations got messed up hold ctrl+shift and then on the menu that pops up click run as... when the list comes up select windows picture viewer and select the check box that says Always use this program. This should solve your issue. Another solution is to do as the above post download a 3rd party program and ensure it takes ownership of your picture files so that they open with it.

Glad to help :) that trick is also useful if you want to open something with a different program that it doesn't normally use, in that case just make sure the checkbox is unmarked to use a different program one time(like if you want to open a .txt file in MS word for instance)

I tried to understand what you meant by ctrl+shift, but do you mean right click on the file and choose 'open with'?

Depending on how the file associations are set up you may or may not need to use ctrl+shift+ right click to get the open with command. Hope that clears it up some. And once you see open with choose other program(if its not listed) to find what you want to open the file with.
