    Flash Drive Unrecognizable
I have a flash drive my computer (running XP) says is unrecognizable. It works fine on other computers. I tried reinstalling all the USB drivers. Did not help. What else could be causing this problem?

Check device mgr to see if you have 2.0 drivers installed

-right click on my computer on desktop and click properties

-go to hardware tab and then click device mgr

-go down list and click + sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Now look to see if you have this listed there:
    Enhanced USB controller

If you do not have that there, youi would need to install USB 2.0 drivers

Post back with what you have there

My buddy came over with this flash drive he found in the trash can at work. When I go to my computer it reads it as a cd not a flash drive. I get one read only file that can't be deleted, it also says I can't save anything to it because of write protection. Does anyone know a way around this?
