    Too Many Erections
I'm 52 years old, married and I find that I still get erections all the time. It takes very little to arouse me and it's becoming a real problem. I thought that it might get better as I get older but nothing seems to change. Does anyone know of anything that reduces sex drive?

    I'm sorry, I don't understand the problem-isn't this a good thing??

The loss of erection in old age is considered a bad thing as it can point to heart disease/diabetes etc.

The ability to get an erection at your age and older is an asset-I think you have little to worry about.

If you have a priapism-thatts a totally different issue.

Men are supposed to get erections all the time. :) As old age comes on there is a natural decrease in potency. If I remember correctly, Picasso was quite the ladies man in his 80's.

The loss of erection ability is a sign of dis-ease of physical or psychological nature.

You may wish to talk to your doctor about the use of Anabolic steroids or antidepressants as a possible solution to help reduce your libido. As you can tell from many of the posters, many people do not see it as a problem, but if you do, then nothing wrong with seeking help from professionals to make you happier in life. Be careful and aware of potential negative side effects that you may not desire from any medicines, which your doctor can also inform you about.

The link below also mentions some herbal suggestions that have been used by others to combat a similar problem.

I think I may have to revise my answer to this one perhaps he is experiencing a priapism issue-but he did not state if the erections wore on for ages-just that they happen quickly and spontaneously-I need further clarification before I give any more info.

"The loss of erection ability is a sign of disease of physical or psychological nature."

Not necessarily. It comes with age also.
AS men age, they actually can lose erections even while engaging in intercourse, This is NORMAL

I wish I had that problem. But talk to your doctor. That would be your best move.

Most of the things I know of that reduce sex drive are things that also reduce health and quality of life. Strong sexual drive and performance are often a reflection of good mental health, good vascular health, and good nervous system response. That's good news generally speaking. But when you are constantly bothered, it can't be a good thing.

    Something to possibly consider... acupuncture.

You would have to talk to a specialist to understand if this can help you. My knowledge is based solidly in western med and science... the "chi" and the "cold and hot energy" theories of acupuncture make me cringe. I can't listen to it and take it as seriously as the physiological and anatomical structures and responses I know from my education.

That said... I've seen acupuncture do some amazing things. Not tied to your problem... but still tied to a theory of imbalance in the body... and I'm wondering if you have a naturally high level of testosterone.

Were I in your position, feeling like I couldn't handle this constant pressure, id look locally for a good, established clinic. My wife has received acupuncture for several years to help with a problem when western med couldn't help her. Everything her acupuncturist promised he could do and help her with, he has done and delivered. Period.

Just a route you might not have thought about.

There's a lot of discussion about the role of testosterone and the potential for "male menopause" as concentrations decrease over time for many... some believe the male sex drive that falls off over time is tied to this decrease in testosterone production. Some oppose this theory, stating that the evidence is not as solid as menopause is for women. Perhaps in your case, you have higher levels that keep your drive and sensitivity amped.

    ?

You do not provide any explaining information, so...

    WHY ?

Why is that a "real" problem ?
Why do you call loss of erection potential "better" ?
Why do you want to reduce your sex drive ?

With all respect : what is wrong with you ?

The end of this post is rude and disrespectful.

If the guy gets bothered all the time and needs a "fix" all the time, is it that far of a reach to think... hmm.. maybe if he can temper the drive some he won't be bothered all the time?

Sure, its great he has good form and response. But he didn't ask how to stop his drive completely. He didn't ask to shut off his sexuality. He asked how to modify it.

    So why insult him?

I disagree with your observations. I also note that you quote my words out of context.

The majority of older men would be extremely happy to have that "problem".
The poster does not provide details as to how it is a real problem for him.

Why do you want to reduce your sex drive ?

I see nothing here that is rude and/or disrespectful.

I'd like to see the OP come back and let us know he's actually still reading our responses.

Considering he's not been back since may 5th, he surely isn't reading any of this. Lockdown?

Nah, no need to close the thread yet--but no point in arguing on it either, if the OP isn't even reading it.

Just to clarity one point concerning the use of steroids in terms of increasing or decreasing libido, it depends on use. Neither oneguyinohio or sanjay is completely wrong or right.

Steroids have long been noted for their potential to decrease sexual function and libido, and research is even being done on testosterone as a potential male contraceptive.

That said, testosterone administration in older men with imbalances can act to increase libido.
