    Causes of baby loss
Does anyone know what the commonest causes of recurrent miscarriages are and in what order? Is there a website that can help?

Usually miscarried babies are genetic anomalies who wouldn't be able to survive anyway. Although certain ones "make it through" and can often survive (such as occurs with children having Down's Syndrome, which results from having an extra copy of chromosome #21) most miscarriages are genetic defects and a miscarriage is nature's way of ridding itself of them.

It is thought that a high % of miscarriages are due to a spontaneous genetic or structural abnormality in the baby. Other, less common, medical causes for miscarriage are infection of the uterus during early pregnancy, medical interventions to detect abnormalities in the baby (A CVS (done between 10 to 12 weeks) or an amniocentesis, (done between 14 to 18 weeks) can increase a woman's risk of miscarrying her baby.), a weakened cervix that can allow the cervical muscle to spontaneously open, a blow to the woman's lower stomach, an unusual shaped uterus, implantation on a fibroid, age of the mother, and also health of the mother. Remember most miscarriages have little to do with the mother and everything to do with the baby.

Let us not forget drug use, alcohol, exposure to communicable diseases...

Many women will never know the reason that she miscarried. Along that same line, 99% of us women have had a miscarriage, we just didn't even know we were pregnant.

I mention drugs and alcohol because many women drink and do drugs during the weeks before they know they are pregnant.
