    Recurrent strep throat after tonsillectomy
My daughters ages 9 and 6 had their tonsils removed 2 yrs ago for recurrent strep. However, they continue to get strep throat. They each have tested positive 3 times in the past 6 months. We have had everyone in the family tested to see if they were carriers and all were negative. We finish all antibiotics, wash everything in the dishwasher and buy new toothbrushes with each case. We have even had the family dog treated. What else can we do? Should we see a specialist? They usually only complain of stomach pain or joint pains when they have it, they never complain with throat pain. Because the symptoms are vague I worry that the strep will go untreated and result in Rheumatic fever. What should I do?

Have you doused the house, car included in Lysol?

It very well could be carried in your car.

Crazy I know, but I have heard this from many many people.

My son had recurrent strep as well. He was on meds for a kidney disease that weakened his immune system, so I do feel for you and your 2 children. I am sure that is terrible. I would see the specialist, there are many health problems that can come from strep not being treated properly or not being completely cured with the first round of meds. (1). I would make sure the stress level in the home was low.(2). I would also examine their diets and make sure that it was as healthy as possible. (3) I would speak to the dr's about giving vitamins to boost the immune system. (4).I would give my children filtered water and soften the water that they bathed in and washed their clothes in.(5). I would talk to my children about their health problem and the importance of not sharing drinks, foods, chewing on pens, etc... while around playmates, and class mates. I am not in anyway suggesting that you are not taking care of your children. I just know that when we are upset by illness that we do not think of every thing possible. Some of my ideas may be helpful and some of them may not. I hope your children's health problems can be resolved. Good Luck

I suspect a general overall weakend immune system-naturopathically speaking I'd advise a visit to a natropath he/she may be able to determine through hair analysis perhaps a metal/mineral imbalance.

The test is a few snips of hair and it is sent off for a check-because BOTH of them get it, I'd place bets on that they have defficiencies-

    Good luck anyway.

Oh my gosh!. I feel your pain! We are going through the Same thing in our house... We too, even treated the dog! My son had his tonsils removed back in Dec. and he just tested posetive for strep for the second time since his surgery. We're headed back to the ENT today that removed his tonsils to swab him once again so they can send it out to be cultured. My son's symptoms include stomach pain and fatigue as well and usually no throat discomfort what so ever. I too worry about it going untreated and causing more serious problems. I know that this is an old post but I'd love to hear how your children's strep was resolved or if they're still getting it. ~ Thanks!

Have your home tested for mold. My son and I kept getting strep throat, and when my fiancé moved in with us he got strep within 1 month and he had never had strep throat prior to that. It turned out the home we lived in had a mold infestation we did not know about. Once we moved it was 5 years before my son had another episode and that was after an outbreak in his classroom. It was 12 years for me.

How did this turn out? I'm wondering as I'm an Adult (23) who had his tonsils out at 13 years old and have never had strep since then. That was until February this year, since then I've had it 4 times. It would be okay if it was just a sore throat and a fever.. but I VOMIT and VOMIT and VOMIT for 48 hours each time. Work has been understanding, but for how much longer? I've been treated with amoxicillin and penicillin (500mg 4 times daily for 12 days) but to no avail.

I didn't have my adenoids out, although I read these disappear when you are an adult in most cases.
