I was just wondering if anyone knows whether I can request that a student loan, that is now statute barred in Canada, be removed from my credit report with the credit bureaus in Canada.

Putting "Without Prejudice" on the letter would be a wise move on your part. This way, it can not, in ANY way be used as any kind of acknowledgment of the debt.
