What is Water Hammer?
Some good training info for your future use as well, Speedball.

Speedball, I didn't miss a thing, nor was either response wrong. Enjoy the following quote from a previous expert on here (ps: search your local plumbing houses and you will find "Air Hammer...

"Air" hammering has nothing to do with water temperature. I assume that you have an older home? If so, air hammer arrestors will not fix the problem (in my experience). I suspect that the problem...

Suggestion: this has worked many times. After tamping, use a wire brush to thoroughly clean the area. Use "J-B Weld" to cover the lead. It is an automotive grade 2-part epoxy that will adhere to...

I'd be curious to find out what they discover

The leak stops if you turn the valve off. So the problem MUST be after the valve, hence IN the toilet. If it was just the sewer pipe, it would leak only when flushed. The problem has to be in the...

Put some food coloring in the toilet bowl, not in anything else. If it appears in the leak, the toilet itself is the problem.

Hi Rosy, your leak is on the drain side of the toilet, since it stops when you turn the valve off. The problem is IN the toilet. It may be cracked. I imagine that your toilet refills itself...

Part of it sounds like a plugged vent, but I'm sure it's more of a combination problem. Rain shouldn't effect you at all since you are on a city sewer line. It could be roots PLUS a vent problem.

Any chance that you purchased a Swanstone or Royal Stone Product to do this?

I'm afraid there is no easy fix. I have dealt with the same issues in the past with cultured marble. It is a faulty install. To do it right, it needs to be removed & replaced. It is possible to...

The pictures made a difference, I did not respond to this earlier. Speedball may be right on the money, but if not this is an eaasy fix if you're handy. That Cast Iron trap is still available for...

48" Quick Slope with a custom drain, around $ 250.00 Not tearing out walls & concrete floor, priceless.
I found the site you were referring to. Ready to tile, universal drain, 7 minute...

Chances are, you have a crack in the bottom of the tub. Your pipe from the valve to the spray head is not under pressure, the head makes it an "open pipe". When the tub is full, or someone is in...

How old is the unit you are taking out? There are a lot of options for replacing, and easy ways to make it custom looking instead of running down to home depot to buy something that looks like it...

KBRS online, you can get Acrylic, Corian, or ready to tile niches & shelves, custom or standard sizes. They work great.

Definitely Air Hammering. You have trapped air in your system somewhere due to the way that the pipes were installed. Arresters probably will not help, since you didn't have the problem originally....
-
The easiest and most quick would be to Google "showerbase". There are places to buy a custom, presloped showerbase that is ready to tile (RTT). Explain what you have to them and you'll get exactly...

As cheap as it is, it is worth venting all to make sure. Relative distance to the "stack" means nothing. One-way vents can be used inside the wall without going to the attic with it. Otherwise,...

Oatey Drain # 42206 is a slip on drain with rubber insert. No leading required, no special tools, no plumber.

You didn't say what kind of water heater you have. But the fact that the pressure was fine 2 weeks ago tells me that something changed, and it's not mineral build up or calcium. Has he done any...

Provided that the pipe in the floor was designed originally for the sole purpose of a tub, shower or floor drain, then your local building codes would have required that the trap be installed. Since...

Custom made shower bases are readily available, and don't require any reframing or replumbing or breaking up your concrete floor. Just do a Google search for "showerbase", you can get them ready to...
