Can sound travel through air and gas ?

Passing through the air is normally how sound reaches our ears. It can travel through gases, liquids, solids, but not a vacuum.

Sound can technically travel through ANY kind of medium (rock, glass, air, water, etc.). But it must have a medium because sound is a LONGITUDINAL wave, which means that particles vibrate side to side to pass on energy. Remember, the ONLY kind of wave able to travel through a vacuum is an electromagnetic (EM) wave, like light.
