Grants and Scholarships -

How do you determine if a grant or scholarship is a good one or not? I do not know anything about the process but have a freshman in high school and want to start checking things out now. I figure it wouldbe better to look now than wait until the last minute.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,,,,
