Linksys wrt160N and HP dv6... Linksys support basically had me set the setup to Mixed
Upgraded firmware to build 004 then the HP would not connect to the router. Linksys got me reconfigured but I was wondering:
    1. He put me inMixed mode, not 802.11N only which is all I have.
    2. He said use WPA not WPA2.
    3. Picked channel 1 @ 20MHz instead of using 20 or 40 or auto.

I am running fine but am now wondering if he bsically set my WRT160N router and IntelWiFi 1000BGN adapter to run in 'G' mode instead of 'N' mode and a lower level of encryption. When I asked about using WPA2-Personal he said 'as a Linksys Tech I recommend WPA-Personal to get better stability. Not complaining just wondering. Seems like I round about way to say 802.11N and WPA2-Personal aren't ready yet or I need to do more homework.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Linksys and Lisksys support are troublesome. Their stuff is picky and I don't trust their equipment. A prinserver and a hub of theirs are now paperweights. If I get tired of the paperweights, I might try hockey pucks.

Use the free program Netstumbler to pick a channel based on signal to noise ratio. Use repeaters to fix low signal areas. Usually try to locate the unit in the center of the house. Antenna's aimed in different directions. Like one verticle and one horizontal.

Lower encryption means less processing for both the router and the computer.

Hey your security is fair enough... what he did is that on our hp dv6 laptop(as I also got one with me) we got G w/l card that's why he might have set your router mode as mixed... so that your router can work on g as well as N node good right??
You just enjoy your stuff... but I like to tell you that please change your password(passkey or pass phrase) you are using so that you are more secure... you can conttact me [email protected]
