Cisco IP Phone / Voip Issues
    Hi

We have 7 Cisco IP phones in our office which all plug into a cisco router and then into a BT router. Can I plug phones directly into BT router instead of using the cisco one? We feel this is causing all our Voip issues at present.

    Thanks

What are your VoIP issues ?
Normally the cisco router does far more than a simple data router, so you can't plug the phones directly into the BT router.

    Hi Curlyben

Thanks for getting back to me. I have only been at this office for 6 months however we are constantly having issues with these phones.

They drop offline and have to be rebooted, they reboot themselves randomly, When trying to transfer calls, we lose the caller, when one extension goes offline, it semms to take about 3 others with it etc etc. The main issue we have had today is one of the phones had to be rebooted and since 11am this morning has been stuck on "Initialising network"

I have been advised that this is due to the phone trying to obtain an IP address, surely this doesn't take 5.5 hours? :-(

Broadband supplier advised there were no broadband issues, and voip supplier advised they could see nothing wrong there end.

I have tried 3 different Cat 5 Cables just in case but have the same issue when trying to start up the phone.

I called cisco but we are out of warranty so they would not offer any help.

Could this be a firewall issue? I've opened up the ports for this extension number.

Sorry if this sounds like jargon but I am not technical at all.

    Thanks again

    Kerry
