"Write Yourself A Job!"

I've just been through this dilemma myself. Found a brilliant little "how to" guide on
html Code:
www.progressenterprise.com
. It was only $10 AUD but really exceptional with its advice. Also has an example cv/resume and lots of info about pitfalls.

Sure, there is lots of free advice on the net, but some of it is about as useful as reading a horoscope. I thought this was a good result for a very small investment. Wish you luck.

new career

hi, i was wondering how to go about writing my resume. i wish to begin a career in financial accounting or auditing in a corporate environment. i'm 28, a licensed accountant, but my only work experience is as an accounting teacher in university for 7 years. i'm a bit concerned that my achievements and responsibilities as a teacher don't "respond" specifically to my career objective now, which is to land a job as a financial accountant or auditor. i'd appreciate your thoughts on this. big thanks.

Making the transition from one career to another provides more challenges than simply seeking development/promotional opportunities within your current career, but thousands of people do it every year!

At the risk of grossly oversimplifying, what are the broad competencies you have developed that have relevance to a career in audit/finance? For example, ability to analyse data (whether it is trends in student achievement or corporate growth), ability to research and problem solve, communication and conflict management etc etc etc.

Next thing to consider is how to present your transferrable skills in audit/finance "friendly speak". Having an education background myself, it is my experience that not many people are tuned in to the kind of language that is part of the education culture. So be careful how you describe your competencies both in your application and at interview.

Your Resume may use different headings, but essentially the process is similar for most professions. You would probably avoid headings such as "Curriculum Initiatives" or "Curriculum Specialisations" and think more about what makes this expertise of value in the context of audit/finance, and provide a title accordingly (eg: " project initiatives"??).

I mentioned the Resume book and Resume/CV templates from http://www.progressenterprise.com in a previous post, but there are 12 of them - really easy to use and visually and conceptually sophisticated in design. I think they are still priced at about $10.00 (AUD) and probably worth a whole lot more. I've used them myself.

Hope this is of help.

Resume

Hi,
Yahoo has some very good tips, and some "forms" to use in writing a resume.
You can also find some good places using a search engine.
You want to include all education, with dates, names, and degrees.
Also, any work experiences, with work references, and non-work references.
Best of luck,
fredg

Hi,
CV Writing is a site where you can find resumes ( examples of resumes, articles related to resumes), cv-s, and almost everything you need in order to be prepared for an interview. Don't forget to write your personal data at the top of the resume, include your past experience, your skills; make sure your resume has a professional layout and that you don't have any grammar or spelling mistakes.
Good luck!
