We teach others how to treat us
Do you think this is true "that we teach others how to treat us". I am wondering if anyone has any experience in this subject?

Hmm interesting.
I would say in the 20s I was quite sweet and naïve and others seemed to think that they could take advantage of that, I had quite a lot of friends using me.I would say I did not stand up for myself so I taught others to treat me that way.
Now I am happy to say I don't take any crap anymore from anyone, and have just close friends and no one even attemps to use me anymore.
If you show naivety and niceness I feel people treat you like crap, but if you show strength and bluntness, people treat you with respect.

Also I have some friends who are quite susceptible so I treat them with more kindness,
Whereas I've others who are tough and blunt so I treat them like that
So its true I guess we do teach others how to treat us!

I see it as an extension of the Dharmic teaching of karma, which posits that if you're in the state of mind to do good and kind things, then people will pick up on it and treat you with goodness and kindness, the same being true if you're in a foul mood.
In the same way, if you act in a blunt and tough way, people will pick up on it and treat you in the same way, as a kind of emotional karma.
I don't know if I'm making sense or not ;p

Yes, we do teach others how to treat us, but some people don't take instruction very well, or even pay attention in class.

Hi, I am a personal motivational counsellor and I write for 8 monthly magazines. One of my articles deals with this subject... we do teach people how to treat us, by body language, facial expression, reactions, tone of voice... all without words!
If we don't like the results we are getting we have to make some changes... watch the change in results! Amazing!!
