Crush On My Pet’s Veterinarian

I have a huge crush on my pet’s Veterinarian. My pet was sick, on and off, for 2 months and finally had to be put down. During this time I was at the Vet on average of two times per week. When I would leave the office he usually touched me on the arm or shoulder in a caring, respectful manner. Then he started hugging me when I took the pet in for follow up visits, possibly because he knew how much I was going through with such a sick animal. Then one day when I took the pet home with me for the night, he refused to allow me to pay my bill and carried both my pet and my purse out to my car, leaving me empty handed. He told me to not worry about the bill probably because I would be bringing the pet back the next morning. He also gave me discounts and did not charge me for everything.

Then, all of a sudden he stopped touching me on the arm/shoulder and stopped hugging me. I was kind of upset since I was growing increasingly attracted/attached to him. So I decided to hug him and he did hug back. But I was still confused because he seemed somewhat shy yet also attracted to me at the same time. I can’t pinpoint the body language that told me he might be shy. But the body language that signaled attraction came mainly from his eyes, dilated pupils and eyes that scanned me and what I had with me when I came to visit my sick pet. Another time, when our hands touched, I noticed his were sweaty/clammy.

Other things that go above and beyond the usual include him calling me periodically to see how my pet was doing, calling me after office hours to discuss my pet’s health, and giving me his personal phone number (instead of having the office call him) in case of an emergency.

He is not married and knows I am single. On my last visit, after my pet was put to sleep, I told him that I would be glad to show me how to do some computer related stuff, something he had shown some interest in earlier. I figured that would be a signal to him that I’m open to him calling me for something not pet related. Well, since then, he sent me a condolence card but he hasn’t called and it’s been about 6 weeks. In the card he said call if I need anything but I take that as a standard part of any condolence message. I can't get him out of my mind and want to contact him. Is it as clear as day that he’s not interested or am I missing something? Do I contact him or forget it?

If you are that interested in him, then why not give him a call and see if he wants to go out and have lunch or ice cream or something? You wouldn't actually be asking him out on a date. You could just say that you enjoyed the time that you did already spend with him and greatly appreciated the amount of caring and care that he showed for both you and your pet, and that you would like to show your gratitude by treating him to something.

If he says "Yes." then the conversations that follow should tell you a lot. It could be that he is just a really shy person. He may not know what to think of you either.

Just an idea...

Thanks for replying and helping me to see that if there is interest on his part, he could be confused about me. I've already shown my appreciation by giving giving him a gift card with a card expressing my thanks the first time my pet was hospitalized. After the second hospitalization I brought in baskets of goodies for the entire staff and the Vets. So is giving him a call for lunch or something too much?
