In most states in the US, you can get a job when you are 16, legally. There are lots of ways to make money when you are younger. Paper routes come to mind. Most of the 16 year olds I know work in fast food. There seem to be lots of jobs there.

You can help your grandmother if you find a way to contribute. Some ways of helping her don't require working outside the home. Maybe you should talk with her and see if there is some way you can relieve her work load at home. Cook or learn how. Do the laundry. Put more effort in keeping the place clean. You might find that her attitude will change for the better if she sees you trying to help more.

Beyond that, I don't see that it is your fault that the two of you are in this situation. Unless you are causing problems for her or not pulling your weight by helping her keep the home, you shouldn't feel guilty. Your parents poor decisions are not your fault. Don't beat yourself up over them.

I commend you for thinking of someone else, and be a good student with a bright future, and a big help around the house, is a very good start. Why have your parents not helped your grandmother financially? No matter, just do whatever you can, even if its just hot meal, when she gets home from work.
