Should We Stay Friends?

Hello Everyone,

Well here is my situation. My girlfriend broke up with me (long story so I won't get into the details) and she told me she wanted to remain friends. I responded by being honest with her. I told her that I couldn't be friends with her because I knew for a fact that every time I would see and talk to her in the future all I would be thinking about is getting back together. I told her that my feelings for her are so strong that I simply would not be able to be her friend without wanting more.

In my head I also told myself that if there was ever any chance of us getting back together again then I can't allow myself to fall into some "friend zone," which would only make me feel even worse. My question is simple, do you all think I made a mistake by possibly burning bridges and was it immature of me to not want to be friends? Or did I do the right thing? Thanks in advance for your advice.

You were honest, and that's how you feel. Your right to know friends is not what your ready for, so you have saved a lot of confusion. Now go heal and move on.

She should appreciate your honesty with her. You did the right thing, I believe so anyways. After being in love with someone, it's not fair for you to just forget everything and just go along with her decision.
