Try talking to him about things that interest him. What are his hobbies? Sports? Classes?

Ask questions that you can get more of a 'yes and no' answer to. Here are some exapmles:

What one talent or gifting would you really like to have?

What is your all-time favorite meal?

What food do you hate?

Who is your favorite singer?

If your CD player only played one song, what would it be?

What is one thing that you would really like to learn how to do?

If you could go back in time to any era, what date would you choose?

Anything that will bring up a good conversation.

Those could also result in one line answers. I would suggest delving into his interests, and talking about that. You may also find that you have things in common.

If a guy wont talk about himself, thats a little to shy, but give it a try.
