i want to go on the pill but don't know what to say to mum

I'm almost 16 and want to go on the pill for both protection and period pains.

Me and my boyfriend are sexually active and we use condoms but are both scared incase the condoms break.

I don't want to waste away my years at collage by getting pregnant, so I really want to go on the pill.

When my mum found out about me and my boyfriend having sex she told me that she would take me to the doctors to have me put on the pill just incase, but she never took me.
Things that have happened with friends at school has really made me think that anything can happen, so I just want to be safe.

The thing is I really don't know what to say to my mum.

Help Please

Ask her, at the right moment, how she feels about being a grandmother.

No. Actually, you shouldn't be scared to tell your mother that you'd like the shot, you don't even have to tell her you're sexually active. Just tell her that you would like it for the menstrual cycle part of it - as it usually does help regulate it and sometimes it can actually make it go away while your on the shot. I think it's good that people should be on the shot, as, things happen, moments get in the way. Also, in alot of states, you don't have to have you're parents consent to have the birth control shot there are alot of places that give it out for free; such as "Planned Parenthood" and alot of schools have free health clinics.

I hope that you find getting on the pill (and other hormone b/d) worth it. You can get side affects from them and also affect your health. It can lead to a desease not commonly known called Candida. Google that word

Hope you continue to use the condom to protect yourself from STD including HIV

You are so young and it saddens me that you are willing to compromise your health.

You have a whole life ahead of you and hope you manage to stay well enough to think and concentrate to do your homework. (the pill has the ability to affect your concentration so keep an eye out for that) Symptom of later stages of Candida include craving alchol, pms, menstrual pain, chronic fatigue.

It's best to reserve your energy for your education and your future family and earning a living instead of a life of being tired all the time.

Most effects of the pill vary depending on your personal chemistry as well as the particular variety of the pill you go on. There are other options available, like implants. But if you're comfortable with the pill, that's fine. And I support the idea of using extra protection. It's a good idea to be careful and still use condoms though.
As for your mum... she already knows you have an active sex life, and she's already indicated that she's ok with the idea of you going on the pill... all you have to do is bring it up with her. The problem is probably more that you feel awkward and uncomfortable discussing it with her, right? If you really want it, you'll just have to bite the bullet and have that conversation with her.

Kal

she knows you are sexually active and said she would take you to the docs, so just tell her you want her to take you, she might be impressed that you are concerned about safety

Hi

First of all, can i say how refreshing it is to hear someone speaking so much sense and being very considerate and not blarzay to their future!

Firstly, your Mum has already offered to take you to the doctors, so i am sure she will be totally fine if you go and ask her to take you along.

Also, if you are that worried about having accidents, then the sooner you go, the better it will be for your peace of midn also. Don't forget, it's easier to talk to your Mum about wanting to see your doctor for the pill rather than talking to her about seeing the doctor beacuse you are pregnant.

You sound to have a great Mum there and don't forget, she was 16 once upon a time too

:-)
