It just keeps getting worse. Eviction, Legal Fees, Lease Renewal

I wrote a question earlier, but further developments have occurred. I was late on my rent and the landlord sent it to their attorneys who in turn started the eviction process. I paid the rent, the legal fees they stated and wrote were due and late charges. I thought the matter was finished. Today the bookkeeper called me at work and said I owe more legal charges - over $400. I told her that I won't pay these charges because I had asked previously specifically what the legal charges were, and paid them. She called a second time and said they weren't going to drop the eviction proceedings unless I paid this extra legal fee and would not renew my lease until I did so. My lease was due to be renewed the month I was late. They sent me a form to fill out showing me what my new rent would be and told me they would type up the new lease. Now I found out that new people coming into the apartments are paying $100 less than I am. Is there any law saying they have to renew my lease at the new rates they are charging? I really need help. It just keeps getting worse.
