You can first start by asking some neighbors close by if they are aware of any such death in your home.
Also, is the house situated any where near a cemetary perhaps?
A person does not necessarily have to die in a building for them to be "stuck" in that building after life. Sometimes spirits roam around and can catch "rides" on very violent storms and become trapped in buildings.
Have your daughter pick out another room as her bedroom. She will probably feel safer. If that is not possible use a night light in her room. This should "scare" away spirits for her.
