How do I evict my roommate?

My roommate is not on my lease. We have been living together for about 5 months and he had paid rent once and never has paid the utilities. I have been letting it go because he lost his job and I gave him time to find a new one. However he has not even been looking. I have tried to be nice because he is my boyfriends friend but I cannot take it anymore. What procedures do I have to take to get him out?

You have a lease with the landlord, but the roomie never signed anything and has hardly paid anything. In that case he's not a roomate but a guest. And guests can be kicked out without much hassle.

However, if you want to be all on the up and up, give him 30 days notice and tell him that if he's not out by then, you will start formal eviction proceedings.
