If he has filed an eviction then it will be up to you to go to court armed with info. It will be all about whether your state has a maximum rent raise amount (it probably does not) and how you are to be notified about a rent raise. If the answer to the first question is "no" - and the landlord gives you proper notice of the rent raise (which is probably 30 days) then you will be evicted.
I'm not saying it's all "right", but in general, when lease periods are up landlords can generally raise the rent as much as they want - then the ball is in your court to accept it or move.
