I live in Burbank, Ca

My daughter is 19 years old, she has no job, she wont go to school, and she lives off of me.

I called the police only to be told that this is just as much her house as it is mine.
The only way to get her out would be through the courts eviction process.

Wow is this true?

Under what grounds since we never had any agreements as to how much rent she would pay etc.

I'm not sure...child support ends at age 18, in some cases...One thing's for sure, bankrupting you is better for her than you...no-one says you must give her money, so keep her broke. She'll get arrested or move on...Keep money, credit cards, etc. out of her reach...Good luck..

I think it's called establishing tenancy. Since this is where she lives, you can't just kick her out I guess. It's kind of funny, because parents have always said they'd kick their kids out as soon as they're 18 (after HS, whatever) but maybe they can't legally? You should google it to find out about your state, that or Judy will probably be around and can give more insight than I can here. Good luck.

"Smoke" has it right - she's an invited guest in your home (or at least at one time was an invited guest) and in the eyes of the law that makes her your tenant (that's the legal term) so you have to evict her under the laws of your State.

The Police will not get involved as this is not a criminal matter - unless, of course, she is violent or there is a problem which enables you to get a retraining order against her.

She would have to be evicted - I know. This amazes everyone but the Police are not going to get involved. Your grounds are that you don't want her there.

This is not legal advice that suits this situation - withholding money so she is broke and gets arrested (for something) is not going to get her out of the house.

The legal system has a provision for this situation - the daughter must be evicted in accordance with the laws of that State.
