Can a mobile home be to old to move
We are renting a trailer that is in a mobile home park in North Carolina. We have the possibility of buying but don't want to stay in the park forever. The trailer was built in 1982 or 83. Is it too old to move?

It all depends on the present condition of the home. I would have someone who moves homes for a living come and assess this home's exterior and undercarriage to be sure. Some homes that age have floor damage, wall damage, roof damage, etc. and would literally fall apart on the roadway if moved.

Having a home that age though I really would not recommend moving it very far - less than 20 miles tops or it could literally fall apart.

I've seen older homes pulled out of mobile home parks only to fall apart on the first speed bump they encounter as the home was so rotted on the inside the home had to be taken away inside a dumpster.

It is not age as much as condition, Some have had their axles removed and that cost alone was too much to be worth it. Also as twinkle said, I have also saw some where the floors just start falling out and then they lean and just fall apart.

You need to have it inspected to see how solid it is

Chuck - The housemovers I've dealt with have extra axles and wheels available even if the originals are missing. Usually just the tires and rims are gone - not the axles from the house itself. The housemovers just "rent" you the axles and tires and rims for the house move and then take them back. The only time axles are removed though are from modular homes which are set onto foundations such as basements or crawl spaces made of cinderblocks or poured concrete. They return the axles and wheels/rims to the factory along with the steel frame that the house was transported on as the floor for a modular home is all wood - very similar to a regular site built home's floor with wooden beams, etc.
