i recently lost my job right around when rent was due. my roommate and i split the bills but unfortunately i was unable to come up with the money although they were taken care of. she recently put an eviction notice on my door, but wasn't a legalized notice. i've got a job and i'm trying to catch up on my responcibilities, but she's set on it. my question is does she have the legal right to evict me or does only my landlord only have the right to?
Depends on who your lease is with. If you both signed a lease with the landlord then only the landlord can evict. If the roomate has a lease with the landord and you have a lease with her, then she is your landlord and can evict.
As noted, it just depends, who do you rent from, if you rent from the other tennant ( sub lease) then yes they can evict you.
If you are equal on the lease with the other person, to the owner then only the owner can evictyou
