Breaking a lease for medical reasons
We have 17 months left on our lease. We are in a 3 story condo that the stairs are greatly aggavating my wife's back and legs. Can we break the lease for medical reasons?

    Hello hb:

No. Unless, of course, your lease has provisions for this.. But, I've NEVER seen a lease written that way.

You might be able to negotiate a buy out for maybe two months rent.

Not unless you both were to enter a nursing home can your lease be broken unless there are specific provisions in the lease that would enable you to break it just because she cannot get up and down the stairs.

How long was your lease and were you aware of your wife's condition before signing the lease?

But in any case, I doubt if it would justify breaking the lease so best go for a buyout.
