How can you treat the subject of your essay objectively while still trying to persuade readers of your point of view?

Objective in this case doesn't mean without a viewpoint, it means fair. Discuss multiple sides of the topic, and draw a reasonable, justified conclusion about it.

To maintain an objective viewpoint try to think like a person that is defending the opposite viewpoint and then analyze their arguments. After doing this try to determine your viewpoints weak spots. Use phrases such as , I understand the view that... however, ...Show that you are understanding of their viewpoint but support your own viewpoint.
