I just recently adopted a new kitten, she is less that a year old, but i dont know how old she is exactly, and i am about 8 months pregnant. The strangest thing that she does is when i am home she will pee on the floor in the same or nearby room. both my husband and i discipline her when she does it and put her in her room, but she only does it when i am home, she never does it when i am out or at work according to my husband. My mother thinks it may be a territorial dispute with me because i am pregnant, but i'm not sure if she is doing it just to spite me, but i'm the one who mainly feeds her, and i have been equally discipling her. I'm just plain confused.

I bought a product called Sticky Paws. It's kinda like tape squares. I put it in there and after they got the sticky paws on their paws one time, they never went near the fireplace again.
Thing is, if they smell a sent from themselves, a dog, or anything else, they will continue going there.
There is also an enzyme based cleaning product called Natures Miracle that completely rids areas of pet odors.
Maybe you could try those options because I think it has little to do with dominance.

white vinagar and water mixed 50/50 will kill all trace of the sent. It has a natural enzyme in it that kills the ph in the urine. It stinks for about an hour or so but hey it's cheap and easy.
Myth,
Will this mixture also work with dog urine? Do you clean the carpet (or what ever smells) with it just like a shampoo or other cleaner?

Thanks for the info about the enzymes, i think it may be possible about the scent because she does go in the same places. but i didnt clarify what i meant by same or nearby room , it would be a room near me. like if i went to the bathroom she peed outside the door, or if i was in my office she would go on the carpet in the office, if i was in the living room, she would go either on the floor near me or at the front door next to it. unless it may mean the same thing, but i just want to be for sure that its not her just hating me.
I have always sprayed it directly on the area and the surrounding area enough to soak down into the padding underneath. I got it from my grandmother who use to use it in her rentals when they moved out to get rid of smoke smell, pet odors and pretty much any offending odor.
Yes kae, It definitely works with dog urine also. I just got two 6 week old puppies and I have four month old twins and three cats. Hopefully we'll be moving soon to a bigger place and once I get these puppies trained i'll be treating my own carpet with it... works for vomit smell too.
rose, I don't think the cat hates you. Is your cat by chance fix *spayed*? I think it's more that she wants your attention too.
Oh also I think most everyone here has been to a walmart. Well if you go back into their paint section when you plan on painting they have these little packets of scent that you can add to the pain... works great just make sure you open a window cause it does get over powering after awhile. I used it in the kids bedroom last summer and we still smell it. I plan on using it again in the new house if we get it. I use the vinegar mix in a spray bottle... I have actually diluted it more and used it on plants.
The scents tend to be over powering for the first couple of weeks, but after that they are wonderful.
I use the white vinegar for both the carpet and the plants... it's about a four (water to vinegar)to one ratio for plants though. I just kinda mist the leaves once a week. I just happened to stumble upon it while wiping down my avocado tree leaves. I don't have the tree anymore though. It was probably about nine feet tall. I almost killed it once. It was down to a half a leaf and I saved it by putting it in a frequently used bathroom for a month. The humidity did it wonders.... anyway. I have lots of little things that I use around the house like this. If I happen to think of more i'll let ya all know....
