I had my period normally for several months while I was pregnant. We are not doctors and no one can answer this for you. Be safe and make an appointment.

It would not be a true "period" then. Source:

If it was a normal period, then you are not pregnant.
It is also extremely unlikely that you'd get pregnant while on your period.
Have to disagree here, your statement is like giving the go ahead for unprotected sex during a women's period, without knowing the lenght of her cycle, if it was breakthrough bleeding, when she was ovulating, too many things to factor in.
'extremely unlikely' does not cover every factor and every women,so in saying that ,yes there is a chance you can get pregnant on a period.

Thank you red.
You can also still bleed while pregnant.

I never said she can't bleed if pregnant. I said "normal period." She knows what that is, we don't. She didn't say spotting, bleeding, or anything else but "period."
Nor did I say she could not get pregnant. With a normal cycle it would unlikely.
That's all I was getting at. I was not reading anything else into her post as I assumed she would ask if she had any further questions.
I stand by my comment. You may have had bleeding but it was not a normal "period." You did not shed the lining of your uterus.

The risk of the OP being pregnant is small since she did bleed. However, bleeding in early pregnancy does happen. It's not a real period and usually caused by something called a placenta previa. This is when the placenta is covering or partially covering the cervix. This can resolve during pregnancy.
Now, to the OP, are you trying to get pregnant? If not, you need to be using contraception.

We have talked about having a baby and are excited we have decided not to try but to allow it to happen when it does. However my period is lighter then normal but still present I could use the same tampon all day but that would be gross. At the beginning the first day I experienced really bad cramps they were horrible I've never had anything like it. My boobs are really sore and they have I thingling feeling but that could just be part of my period. Is there a chance that I could get pregnant from the unprotected intercourse we had last night. Thank you all for your advice and just to be certain I think I'm going to wait and take a test.

It's possible, but more likely that you could become pregnant from the unprotected sex you had leading up to this last "period". Since it is off from your norm, it would be wise to go ahead and try a pregnancy test.
You could try one now or wait and see what happens next month when you would expect your period at that time.
Since you are not preventing it from happening, it would be a good idea for you to start taking a prenatal or multivitamin now. The folic acid especially is important to help prevent some birth defects that can occur in early pregnancy...often before a woman would even know she is pregnant. Of course make any other lifestyle changes that you and your partner know would be wise as well.
