pregnant at 40?

I did artificial insemination at home on March 21, 2007. I also ovulated that same day( I know cause I can feel myself ovulate!). About a week later, I noticed my breasts were VERY swollen. A few days later I noticed dark blue veins running through my chest that were not there before. I have always been a 38 D and I measured myself yesterday and I measured a 40! About 2-3 days ago I started being sick to my stomach every now and then (no vomitting- sensitive gag reflex). I also started having heartburn (had to look that up cause I have never had heartburn before). I am 40 years old. I am due to start menstration on the 5th of April. I have had NO signs of PMS. I have been on medication (I stopped that the day I inseminated) for PMDS. I usually am overly emotional without my medication about 2 weeks before I start. The only emotion I have experienced in happiness! Could this be pregnancy?

If you had taken an in-home pregnancy test about 8 days after you inseminated yourself, the test should have shown up positive. Yes, you could be pregnant, but without any more proof than what you say right now, it is a best guess.

If you find out you are pregnant, congratulations. Many women 40 and older have successful and healthy pregnancies. Better health care and early intervention are crucial. Best of luck to you.

I am curious as to how you did artificial insemination at home. I did not think it was actually possible. I honestly have never heard of this. I thought it was ALWAYS done in the presence of a doctor at his/her office or hospital.

My doctor stated that you can not get a reliable reading on a hpt till at least 5 days before a missed period. He said to get a proof positive to have a blood test or wait till you are due to start and if I don't then do a test.

To answer, I purchased the sperm from a sperm bank in California. It arrived in a dewar and I used a cathetor provided by them and did the insemination. Sperm was ICI format.
