    Pregnancy--worried about possible plastic ingested.
So I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I was warming some soup up in the microwave in a plastic cup, and it kind of melted. So I only ate one bite cause I was scared that I was going to be eating melted plastic, if I did eat a little bit of melted plastic off that one bite can anything happen to my unborn baby?

Probably not BUT I don't know if this is universal, just one Doctor, but my (step) daughter-in-law is pregnant and her Doctor told her NOT to reheat or cook food in the microwave in ANY type of plastic container, to always use glass.

Hopefully someone who knows will come along with something more definitive.

Based on what the Doctor told her I no longer cook/heat in the microwave in plastic.

It "kind of" melted? How much did it melt?

It is generally considered safe to microwave in plastic, BPA free, containers that are specifically designed for use in the microwave. There is some concern with plastics that are not. When in doubt, use glass containers as JudyKayTee suggested. These too should be approved for use in the microwave as not all glass containers are created equal.

The small amount that you may have ingested shouldn't be a problem. You will pass it through without ever noticing.
