Is It Possible to Still Be Pregnant?

I am almost two months late for my period. I took another HPT yesterday and it was still very negative, not even a hint of a second line. I stopped my birth control pills the first week of January, so my doctor said that I probably skipped the period and if I don't start having a normal period by May to call them and come in. I have read that some people don't register on home tests until they are later in pregnancy, but is that really rare, or is there a possibility that I could be pregnant? Any help would be appreciated.
