I have been on birth control for 2 years now. I had to stop taking the pills during the last month of january. A day before my period was supposed to come my boyfriend and i had sex using the pull out method. Now my period is 1 1/2 week late. I had taken two pregnancy test and they both came out negative. I know that when you stopped taking birth control you period might become irregular specially if before going on birth control you had an irregular period like it was my case. I do not have any symptoms of pregnancy. The only symptom i have is the missed period. I also took a blood test but it was to check if i had any diseases (u know regular check up) i dont know if in that test would show if i'm pregnant or not..or is the pregnancy blood test a different one..

It is very possible that your period is only late since you recently stopped taking the pill.

Now, as far as the HPTs, be sure that you take them using first morning urine as the concentration of pregnancy hormone called hCG, is more concentrated in the morning.

Addressing the blood test. The blood test will most likely be the same, however the doctor has to order a pregnancy test from the blood taken for the lab to do a pregnancy test. Typically if the doc ordered a blood test for diseases, the lab will only be looking for diseases, not pregnancy. However, your particular doctor may order a pregnancy tests when checking for diseases, especially if the blood test is for STDs. This would be enitrely up to your particular physician's discretion.
