Implantation Bleeding?

Hello! I'm new to the site, but hope someone could offer me some advice. My husband and I have been trying to conceive. So here is the deal- My last period was December 17th (I have regular cycles) and have been off birth control for 5 months. Around 8 days after ovulation I started to have some brown discharge, only when I would wipe. The amount increased over the next few days, but still was a small amount (with no red blood). Yesterday I had severe cramping and headache, followed by a small amount of red blood. I still am having some red and brown discharge, but not to the amount of a period. My period is not due to start for about 3 more days. I took a pregnancy test this morning just to see, but it was negative. I'm not sure if this could be implantation bleeding or if its just my period? Please help! Thanks

You don't mention your age which is actually pretty important because of hormonal fluctuations. However, it is not uncommon to have an early or late period, also a period with different flow amounts.

Please read this about implantation bleeding.

(its also not uncommon for healthy couples to try up to a year before conceiving. so dont start to worry about that yet, either. )
