How long does it take to get pregnant after Depo shot?
I got my first shot January 18, 2011 and have not gotten a shot since because things have changed and we are now Trying to conceive. I was never on any form of birth control before this and I was wondering how long it will take to get pregnant, when the shot will wear off, and how likely am I to get pregnant now?
    Thank you!

It can take upwards of TWO YEARS for the effects of the shot to completely wear off.

    Curlyben is correct.

I advise all of my patients to consider depo as a form of a long term birth control. While it is possible to get pregnant earlier, advise my patients not to get disappointed should it take a while to conceive.

Thank you. Do you know like what the chances are of getting pregnant? Isn't it that usually without any birth control you have a 30 percent chance of getting pregnant? What are the percentages after getting the shot once? When do fertility levels first start to go up? Is there anything I can do to increase fertility?

Unfortunately you will have to be patient. The levels are different for every woman and there is no way we can give you a definitive answer via the internet.

I would advise you to start taking prenatal vitamins, or a multivitamin, now to decrease the risk of neural tube defects should you become pregnant sooner than expected. You can also try tracking your ovulation using and OPK (ovulation predictor kit).

To be honest girl... I took my depo shot February 10th, 2011, first shot ever, not my first form of birth control. But my first shot ever.. I finally just had my first period since then last week on August 26th, 2011. Once you have a period it generally takes 3 to 6 months to conceive because the shot freezes your eggs and your not as fertile once you have your first period as you were before you go the shot.. I hate the shot for myself since my fiancé and I are trying to get pregnant, but for anyone young in high school or not wanting kids EVER I recommend the shot.. no period or anything... but that's just my knowledge...

You are considered no longer protected once you have not had the next scheduled injection. A woman may become pregnant fairly soon after that time, but many women find it can take many months... some well over a year.

I have only had 2 of the depo shots and have now come off it due to suffering from some of the side effects, I am now back on the pill and have been for 3 weeks but have forgot to take it for the last 4 days. Am I correct in thinking I will be safe still and not at risk of pregnancy as my last injection was January 2012?

Depending on when in January you took it, yes, although you can still become pregnant even on depo. Start taking those pills everyday and at the same time, or your chances are going to steadily increase.

Well I can answer this question I got my last shot in September 2011, then I went off it. By February or march I had my period and very slowly started to get regular again. I am now 10 weeks pregnant so it took a year for me to get pregnant after my last shot but then again I wasn't trying to get pregnant I was just stupid and had unprotected sex in September.
