    Headaches and sore gums?
I've been having really bad headaches for the past couple days, and my gums have also been extremely sensitive for some reason. I was wondering if those could be just added symptoms of pregnancy?

I had my last checkup with the dentist a couple months ago... the beginning of March, I think. But the thing is, can the problem with my teeth/gums right where my teeth touch them, could that be a symptom and how early would that be, because I don't even know if I'm pregnant for sure yet, it'd be too soon to tell on a test, besides those things never work. Plus my headaches... are headaches common during pregnancy or during the very beginning?

The headaches can also be common before a period, I didn't get trouble with my gums and teeth until the end of my pregnancy.
I would see the dentist you may well have an infection.

*edit* just a thought but do you have your wisdom teeth??

I agree - I got bad migraines at the start (8-12 weeks) with my morning sickness, then once the morning sickness passed, I got constant headaches almost everyday! My Doctor told me that they were hormone headaches and it was perfectly fine taking panadaol, even though I felt guilty taking it everyday at one stage. The headaches have passed fortunately, I only experience them every now and then now. But my Doctor said they will pass after a few weeks! Apparently the hormone headaches are quite comman between 16weeks - till the 3rd trimester.

With the teeth, I have a pregnant friend who is exactly the same.. as soon as she falls pg, her teeth and gums become sensitive to EVERYTHING... whereas before and after pregnancy, they are fine! But bare in mind, she fell pg after her last pregnancy just 7weeks after!

The only reason I'm questioning these things is because I dont usually feel this way at all. I've had headachs before, probably from menstrual hormones, but not everyday like this. Plus, the gum thing has usually only happened back when I was a major sweet tooth and ate a lot of acidic candy. I've also been feeling like I'm going to throw up, but, I'm not the type of person who throws up. I've only thrown up a couple times my whole life, and the first time was last year (from too much alcohol, not proud of it)...I keep feeling like 'm going to hurl and then I end up having an air bubble in my throat...don't know what's up with that. Haha...

Yes, when do you expect your next period? Also, you don't have to actually throw up, to be pregnant. Some women just have nausea, and never actually throw up(the luck ones ;0))headaches can also be very common, esp in the first trimester, as there is a whole lot of activity going on with those hormones as they are making a baby. BUT, these could all be explained with things other then pregnancy, and depending on how early it is, it could be too early for you to be having symptoms. So when is your next period expected?

Just before I found out I was pregnant I got a couple of blisters on my gums. They were only there for a day and went away, but it was strange for me. I also got the headaches, which I normally wouldn't have. I'm just about 9 weeks and I tend to get them at night. All you can do is wait until time has passed enough to take a test. Have you missed your period yet? Until then these symptoms could all be chalked up to menstuation and a change in your body. My teeth have been known to change sensitivity for no reason. Especially shortly after a visit to the dentist. Let us know how it goes

Hi Intendedsighs. You could try increasing your intake of folic acid, orange juice is an excellent source. Lack of folic acid in one's diet can lead to gum problems and headaches. Folic acid is important during pregnancy to manufacture the extra volume of blood needed, and studies indicate, particularly beneficial beforehand in reducing the risk of many birth defects. Orange juice will also supply vitamin C, essential to gum health as well. Take care.

Well I'm only due to start on the 7th...but I'm usually early. It was weird for me, beause my last period was exactly on time, but most of the time I'm a couple of days to a week early. That thing on my gums only happened for the one day too, but the heachaches have been going on for a few days..they've tapered off a little, now it's just a dull ache.

Good, glad to hear that you are taking your vitamins. Your period is suppose to start the 7th of may then? You can take an early response test as early as 5 days before you expected period, HOWEVER if you do, be aware that this is not nearly as accurate as if you wait until after you have missed(not to mention they are more pricey tests) You could also get a blood test done at that time, from your local hospital. They don't usually cost more then a hpt, and are more accurate. HOWEVER, if you are pregnant, and your hcg levels are still not quite high enough to register on a test, the blood test will still come out negative, as it only gives a negative or positive readout. Therefore, I suggest you at least wait until you miss your period(or even until you are a week+ late) to test. How much water do you drink throughout the day? That could also be reasoning towards the headaches, if you aren't drinking enough water. (just throwing out some suggestions until its close enough to test)

Trust me, it's not lack of water, I drink a LOT. I never used to drink enough water, and over the past couple months I've gotten into the habit of drinking water water water, it's all I drink besides like orange juice and an occasional glass of milk. I nixed that idea from the beginning. I think it's mainly because I've been really tired lately, and it's made me have these horrible headaches...I guess.

Anyhow, I'm just going to wait and see....besides, I KNOW that if I dont get my period on the 7th, there's something up, because as stressed as I've been in the past, I've always started on time or early, NEVER late...so that would be breaking a record of 8-9 years. Soo...maybe I'll get to celebrate Mother's Day as a mother this year. :) I hope so.

You're probably right, but, just a personal experience, never say never. I was always right on time like clock work, and suddenly I was 2 months late, thought for sure I had to be pregnant, and my period started up again like normal, two weeks later. HAH. I wanted to be pregnant very badly, and had a lot of stress going on it life with my husband only being home 10 days out of the month, and me basically raising out near 2 year old son alone. So, its possible you could miss or be late, even though you have been very regular.;0)

Hello, I have been reading all these posts and thought I should give it a shot. I am now 17 days late. On days 11th, 13th and 14th days late I took pregnancy tests that were all NEGATIVE. However the samething happened when I was pregnant with my son. I am not typically this late. PLUS my gums have been very sensitive. My dentist said 9/10 times that is a sign of pregnancy if your teeth are health. I have been nauseated, irratable, smells have been bothering me, some constipation, and some foods I typically like are a real turn off right now also unable to concentrate. What do you think... I know... almost too many symptoms to not be pregnant. Would I be having so many negative results at 6weeks along? THanks!

I am having the same issue. I called my dentist just to inquire and let them know there is a possibility I am pregnant. They told me that 9/10 time sensitive gums are due to pregnancy when you have otherwise healthy teeth. I was just at the dentist about a month ago, all was well. My period was supposed to begin the 17th of April, but missed periods happen too. Waiting is aweful!
