Yes, you can, but it is always best to check with your personal physican than over the internet where you cannot always guarantee the advice you receive is medically sound.

My wife had the same question. She went to the pharmacist and the pharmacist did not recommend cough drops or cough medicine. It is best to see the doctor about your cold/infection. If treatment is needed they will prescribe medicine that is supposed to be safe during pregnancy. My wife was sick and had a chest infection and was taking cough medicine by the bottle before she even knew she was pregnant. Everything ended up turning out good, but we know that it is important especially the first 3 months is to stay clear from anything. You need to remember that if possible it is better to avoid any over the counter or prescribed medicine unless supervised by your pharmacist they know more about medicine.

Ludens Cough Drops are what my pharmacist suggested for me to take for a cough. If its more serious then just an annoyance, you can talk to your doctor about what is best for you to take(as pharamacists will likely tell you that they can not give you advice on what to take, as your doctor can best tell you since they know your physical history.) As you are only 8 weeks pregnant, chances are it will be difficult for them to prescribe you anything more potent then the cough drops(which you should also ask them about, don't just take my word on it)They tend to be a lot more careful in early pregnancy, compared to late pregnancy, when most of the development has taken place, and there are not as many concerns for the baby's well being in the way of medicines effecting them. Using a cool air humidifier will help your cough, and if you are having problems with congestion from mucus, saline nose drops works wonders, and as its just saline, they are perfectly safe.(not the best tasting, but they work) Drinking hot/warm water with honey in it helps as well. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
