i just got off the depo shot on nov 20. i had been on it for 6 years can i be pregnant already. i have the signs of being pregnant but can it happen that quick can it just be side effects of getting off the depo shot. i also heard that you can become sterile for being on the shot for that long. is that true.

I'm sure you can become pregnant that quickly after being off of depo. They usually say that it could take up to a year and a half, but every person is different. I didn't have any "pregnancy type" symptoms when I went off the shot. I did go on another form of bc after I went off it, though. It's been 14 months since I went off it, and my husband and I have been trying to concieve for 6 months now. Still no bun in the oven for me. How late are you? Have you missed your period yet? You can take a hpt as soon as the first day you miss your period. Make sure to take it with first morning urine. Also, I don't know about becoming fertile after being on it for a long time. I know that if you go back on depo it can give you higher chances of not getting pregnant. Hope this helps!

some women have no problems getting pregnant coming straight off the shot. however, there is quite a few who do have difficulties. I was on the shot for only 2 shots. it took me 18 months to get preggy after that. my friend was on it for 2 years, (possibly less) and she has been trying to get pregnant for 4 years now with no luck. The docs say it is " unknown infertility" meaning there is no physical reasoning they can see that would cause her to be infertile, yet she is. As far as I am concerned, I believe it was the shot. I have heard of many people going into very early menopause after being on this shot, and many more having to try for years and years to get preggy after being on it.( i am also not a fan of depo, as it caused me lots of problems, including losing a full shoe size and half an inch off my height and many more problems.)these can be symptoms from the shot. or you could be one of the lucky ones who got preggy right away. I hope so, for your sake. if your period has come back and been regular since you got off the shot, then you can take an hpt as soon as you miss. However, if your periods disappeared while on the shot and havent resumed yet, your best bet would be an exam by your ob/gyn and a pregnancy blood test.
