15 Days Late & HPT Are Negative

My period was due on Feb 21 and I have not started my period yet. I am now 15 days past due and all of the HPT have been negative. I had a qualitative HCG done on Feb. 20 (one day before my period) and it was negative as well. The only "real" symptoms I have are my breast are slightly sore and as of today I have the feeling as if I have to urinate more often . I am not going to the bathroom very often nor do I have the feeling of being hungry or sleepy. I do have some slight lower abdominal cramping and my abdomen is starting to stick out a little. I went to my PCP on yesterday and she performed a quantitative HCG which I am now eagerly awaiting the results. Does anyone have any insight or advice?

You need to request a blood test, it will give the hormones a chance to build up. The one you had taken a day before you period was due was most likely too early to show. Good luck.

Here's the thing about qualitative blood tests. While they are more accurate then hpts, they are not without error. This test only gives a negative or positive reading, like hpts.If your levels are not high enough at the time of the test, then it doesnt register as positive, even tho you may be pregnant. It would probably be a good idea to either get another done after a week or two if your period is still not here, OR go to your doctor and request a quantative blood test. This is the most accurate of the tests, as it gives the actual NUMBER of hcg in your system. The test is ususally done again after a week or so, to check if the levels are doubling, as they should in a normal pregnancy. Good luck.

I should know something by the end of today. I went to see my PCP this past Wednesday and she did a quantitative HCG verses the qualitative one I had done the day before my period was due. I am hoping for the best. I am 32 and I already have a 13 yo son. I took another HPT on last night and it is stilling showing negative. I took one yesterday morning and a faint line and one dark line appeared. But the faint line was barely there. I am on pins and needles I just want to know so I will know how I should proceed.

I defiantly will let everyone know. If it turns out that I am pregnant this is going to be a major change in my already hectic life. Although my husband and I were not trying or planning on having any more children (there are 3 boys between us 2 from his prior marriage and one from my former relationship) we did not totally dismiss the idea. Hence why we never used any form of BC. Never the less, a new addition to our family will be welcome with open arms by all.
