| Unfortunately, it affects everything. It affects your supports, the walls, etc. It also of course affects the water level, which can affect yours skimmer. I don't know for sure what the long-term affects are, but I wouldn't recommend it. It would be a shame for the supports to give way, and the walls collapse. I'm not sure that a few inches would cause that, but it would put undo stress on those supports on the lower end.
I hope that your intake skimmer is not on the high end. That will make it very difficult to keep enough water in the pool to keep the skimmer water level correct.
