increasing pump output flow rate

I have a waterfall in my pool that runs off my main pool pump via a diverter valve. Is there anything I can do to increase flow rate over my waterfall? When the diverter valve is opened it allows water over the waterfall while still filtering water through the skimmers. With the diverter valve closed the waterfall is disabled and the pool water continues to be filtered. The diverter valve can be positioned to enable anywhere between a trickle and full flow over the waterfall.

If your diverter is fully opened and sized to the piping you have there isn't any way to increase the volume of water. Is the diverter sized to the pipe or smaller?
