New Above Ground Pool Setup

I am about to set up a new 24' Above Ground Pool and could use a little Advice. I am going to be using foam board instead of sand, will i still need to dig up all existing grass or can it just be killed out. The only reason i would like not to disturb the ground very much is that it is very level allready.
