low pressure on return line

I was vacuming out my pool and noticed tha I had lost suction, so i cleaned out the filter basket and returned to vacuming. I did this several times, with the filter setting on waste, when finished i backwashed the filter and noticed that the water comming out was not as forceful as usual. when i turned the knob back onto filter i noticed the water comming out of the return into the pool was week as well. thinking i had a clog some where i removed the pump and cleaned the lines but no clog. this is a new pump bought at the end of the season last year. anyone have a idea on my problem.

Hi, tk,
My experience in this area is with a 15 x 30 ft above ground pool, which we had and used for about 16 years. Lots of fun in it.
The first filter system used the old "filters", which after a year, got rid of. Replaced it with a sand filter system, with the plastic knob on top to turn to "normal", "backwash", "clean", etc.
When you say "filter basket", do you mean the filter is a "fibre type", or "cloth type" filter, such as similar to an auto' oil filter? If so, that's the type I had, that came with the pool from Sears.
I got rid of it; cause the filters kept clogging up. If this is the type you have, you need to replace the filters with new ones. I highly suggest getting a sand filter. I do wish you the best, and good luck.

Hi Fred,

The filter basket is a plastic basket not the paper kind I have two on this pool, a skimmer basket and one on the pump, My main filter is a sand filter, it is on a 24x24 round above ground pool. I was told this morning by someone that the sand my need to be changed, but I just changed it at the starting of last summer when I put the new pump on. I was told when I bought the sand that I would not have to change the sand again for about 3 yr.
Any other ideas.

thanks, tim

Just wanted everyone to know that I have found the problem. Some large trash got by the basket filter on the motor and was stuck in the impeller not letting it spin at full force. Once I got it cleaned out and reattached to the pipes, the gauge went back to normal ant the pressure was fine.
