Hey all... new to the boards.

Wanted to ask about using copper pipe for the inlet & outlet piping of the pump. How is it affected by the Cl levels? I work for a company where I can get FREE 1.5" Cu and ALL fittings...

I wanted to make my system look better by doing it all in cooper and using brass 1/4 turn valves for isolation... also brass unions... is there any problem with that?

If the copper is free, and you are comfortable working with, it go for it. And yes, I wouldn't even consider anything else except 1/4 turn.

K... yea brazing copper is nothing for me... but my question was about the compatibility with the Chlorine used in the pool, specifically. I was worried about the corrosion factor and the teflon seals used in the 1/4 turn brass valves... if they would degrade over time.

using copper pepe will likely increase the amount of copper ions disolved in the pool water, which in turn can lead to green hair and bathing suits. Here's an excellent article on the subject - it points out that it's not chlorine that causes the corrosion of the copper and/or brass parts, but rather low pH:

i would not use copper for the simple fact of the green gunk you are going to have building up inside the lines. and if on the weekend you have a leak, what is the availability of copper replacement pieces in your area. i know i would have to travel about 30 miles one way to get copper parts, or if i didn't have what i needed in my workshop, i could go about 3 miles one way and get plastic replacement parts.
