Would governments investment in electric cars or oil?

If a government anywhere in the world was given the opportunity to actively assist in the roll out of electric cars, given they produce 2/3 less CO2 emissions than petrol and cheaper than oil to produce, would these be enough reasons for them to participate?

In the current climate quite possibly, however you have to be aware that electric cars represent investment in inferstructure, both power stations and high voltage/low voltage transmission lines. There may not be sufficient inferstructure if every one is recharging cars at night and that means coal fired power stations with greater loads in some countries, You have to look at the total package not just CO2 emissions. This is present ,istake governments are making
