Maybe Jewish Americans are democratic because they have been through more racism in the past couple thousand years than anybody. I think it's more about equality than business. I think that's why most African Americans are democratic too. Maybe I'm wrong.

Well that is certainly the perception.... that the Dems are better on race issues than the Republicans. However, is it the reality? I certainly don't think so. If I remember correctly, it was Southern DEMOCRATS that maintained segregation all the way into the 1960s, after a Republican named Lincoln ended slavery. I'm not saying that there weren't racist Republicans, because there were. But I'm saying that the Dems do not have a significantly better record on race issues than Reps.

And since the values of Judaism fit better with Rebublican Judeo-Christian "family values" (note the "Judeo" part of that phrase) than with Democratic liberalism, I can't understand why, when taken as a whole, more Jews aren't Republicans.

BABRAM agrees: Good points. When you get a chance make your way over the Judaism board and help out. Thanks.

Gallivant_Fellow,

I agree with ETW. If we look at political history on a whole, it's the conservative nature of the Republican party that has an ideology that comes closer to traditional Jewish thought. It was, perhaps, the recent 35 or so years that brought the Democratic party to join the forefront on equality issues. Some would say an over adjustment. As for why Jews in the past are more likely to have voted Democratic I think it is the appearance of a more economically viable representation to include all people. Personally, over the past two decades or so I've found it more challenging to support Democratic candidates, at least in the national elections, because many continue to overlook welfare abuse and have an openness towards permitting abortion in general. I'm Jewish, registered Democrat, but I do not vote according to party. In fact depending on the issues, I'll support a Democrat, Republican, or an Independent.

ET: Yeah I know Democrats weren't always about equality, Republicans did most of the work. It seems weird to me the Dems. weren't at it from the beginning. I guess it depends on the person though, not their party.

Babram: That's good. It's nice to be able to support a Democrat, Republican, or Independent depending on the issues. Anyone who makes up their mind about something before they even hear the issue sounds pretty dumb to me. I'd support a Dem. or a Rep. too if they suited me.

Most people support the rich people because they are the only ones advertising and yeah i love it how people say they are a democrat, republican, etc... Basically if you are saying that you are a democrat or w/e you support every dem or w/e. Why cant we all just be americans and then say im a "Guiliani supporter" or w/e

BABRAM agrees: Good point. The parties are not what they were thirty or forty years ago. It's best not to get affixed to particular party now-in-days.
