I have a delta single handle kitchen faucet that the little pin either broke or fell out as well.
I got a pin at really good hardware store and used Loctite 609. It works like new.
No more leaks.
I suppose you could use a tap to make threads in the hole and then put a screw in with Loctite and then hacksaw the screw head off so the cover will fit. This is a lot easier than replacing the unit let alone the $100 or more for a new faucet.
This will work. Easier than you think.

Yup! Same thing happened to me in the kitchen. I found a small stainless steel brad, clipped it to size, drove it home, just beyond the threads as to not interfere with the cap threads, from the outside of the of the faucet body, good as new! Very simple, permanent repair.
